Meet our Governors

Thank you for visiting the Governors' area of our website.

Governors perform a vital voluntary role in education and a full and diverse governing body is a source of enormous strength to a school. Ampney Crucis C of E Primary School has 12 governors including members of the community, staff and parents. While the governors have different backgrounds and experience, we work together to support and challenge the senior leadership as they strive for the best possible education, learning environment and future prospects for the school's children.
The governors work with staff to oversee the long-term development of the school. Although it is a voluntary role, governance comes with significant expectation of performance and accountability from the government through Ofsted. Governors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Ampney Crucis is an outstanding school with a great team of professional staff and amazing children but we know that all things can improve and we are doing our utmost to ensure that every child has the opportunity to fully realise their potential and talents.

Chair of Governors

The Governing Body consists of 12 members

2 Parent Governors  (elected by other parents at the school.)
7 Foundation Governors (appointed by the Diocesan Board of Education, one of whom is the Vicar of the Parish and 2 are appointed by the Trustees of the Robert Pleydell’s Educational Charity)
1 Local Authority Governor (nominated by the local authority but appointed by the governing body)
1 Staff Governor (elected by the staff and can be either a member of teaching or support staff)
The Headteacher
Associate members are appointed by the governing body. They are appointed because of the specific expertise and experience they can contribute to the effective governance and success of the school and serve on governing body working parties. They may also attend full governing body meetings but they are not governors and therefore do not have a vote in governing body decisions.

Areas of focus

The work of the full governing body (FGB) is aligned to 3 main areas of focus which can include the establishment of working parties to undertake specific actions:

Standards - curriculum and pupil progress
Ethos - Vision and Values of the school and ensuring it’s Christian character
Resources - finance, staffing, premises and health and safety

Together we live, learn and flourish
