Willow Class Summer 1 Week 2 School blog
Date: 24th Apr 2026 @ 12:55pm
This week, we have enjoyed a wide range of learning experiences across the curriculum, with the children showing enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity throughout.
In Geography, we explored weather patterns across the UK, identifying differences in temperature, wind patterns and forecasts. We looked closely at weather maps and symbols and discussed how weather can vary from one part of the country to another. To bring this learning to life, we watched a TV weather forecast, which helped us understand how weather information is shared with the public.
In RE, we continued exploring the emotions linked to the Easter story, focusing on the role of the disciples. We shared thoughtful ideas about how the disciples may have felt at different points in the story, showing empathy and reflection in our discussions.
In Music, we listened to a range of rock and roll songs, learning to recognise key features of the style. We also continued practising Rockpool Rock, singing with growing confidence and enthusiasm.
In English, Group 1 focused on using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces, as well as beginning to use time openers in their writing. Group 2 explored expanded noun phrases and conjunctions, helping them to create more detailed and interesting sentences.
In Maths, Year 1 explored finding one quarter of a shape, an object and an amount, using practical resources to support their understanding. We also practised our lefts and rights. Year 2 focused on estimating and ordering lengths, developing their reasoning skills and checking estimates carefully.
In Science, we explored hygiene and took part in a germ experiment using water, pepper and soap. We were fascinated to see how the germs moved away from the soap, helping us understand why washing our hands is so important. We discussed different ways we can maintain good hygiene in our daily lives.
In Computing, we learned about the purpose of a keyboard and how it is used for typing. We practised locating keys and began developing confidence when using the keyboard to input information.
In PSHE, we joined a live lesson focused on wellbeing and pets. We learned some interesting animal facts and discussed how caring for pets can support both physical and mental health. We also shared ideas about how we can look after our own wellbeing.
In PE, we practised our running skills, focusing on changing direction and using controlled turns. We enjoyed being active while developing agility and coordination.
For our play project, following the children’s interests, we explored tigers through the story The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. To deepen our learning, we watched Andy’s Wild Adventures about tigers:

We wrote our own stories, created animal Top Trumps, designed tiger posters, built tiger models, and retold stories in the small world area. It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, imaginative and confident in their play.
Today, we joined a BBC live lesson to celebrate Earth day! We learnt about how to be sustainable, global warming and how people repurpose objects through recycling. Earth Day 2026 – Live Lesson - BBC Teach
