Willow Class Spring 2 Week 4 Blog

Date: 20th Mar 2026 @ 1:40pm

This week has been an exciting and creative one at school!

We were thrilled to welcome the Corinium Arts Society into our classroom. They helped us design pictures that will soon be used on our very own Cirencester School Hare. We loved drawing our designs, knowing that Amanda will use our ideas as inspiration for the final artwork. Even better—our pictures will be shared in a special YouTube video, so everyone can see the fantastic creativity in our class!

In English, we split into two groups to work on different writing skills.

- Group 1 began their modelled independent writing. We started drafting our stories by thinking carefully about our main character and the creatures they meet along the way. We focused on using correct punctuation and choosing super adjectives to make our stories exciting and clear.

- Group 2 wrote a recount of their journey home—although not an ordinary one! We bumped into some very strange characters on the way, and used adverbials, speech marks, conjunctions and noun phrases to add our own twist to the events.

In Maths,

- Year 1 explored number bonds to 17 and 18,

- while Year 2 started looking at scales of 1 and 2 as we get ready to explore mass next week.

In Science, we designed our own balanced meals, thinking carefully about different food groups and what our bodies need to stay healthy. In Geography, we began our new weather unit by identifying the countries that make up the United Kingdom. Using atlases helped us label each country accurately. In PE, we continued developing our hockey skills—this week focusing on shooting, dribbling, and passing.

In Phonics,

- Year 1 learned the /ea/ sound as in bread,

- and Year 2 focused on the /ey/ spelling as in monkey.

In Computing, we continued exploring data and practised using the information we collect to create pictograms. In PSHE, we talked about how to respect our environment and look after property and the environment—both our own and other people’s.

We have also been very busy with our Play Project. This week we:

- planted seeds,

- created beautiful blossom drawings,

- explored the weight of objects using scales,

- and learned about how Easter is celebrated.

We retold parts of the Easter story using LEGO, made our own crosses to reflect on the sacrifices Jesus made, created Easter baskets, and made our own Easter hunts for our peers to complete next week.  We explored the Easter Story The Christian Story of Easter | Religions of the World.

What we have enjoyed this week:

  • PSHE and talking about respect for the environment - Roberta.
  • Building Jesus' cross using foam bricks - Grey.
  • Planting sunflower seeds - Frankie.
  • Sewing - Noah and Archie.
  • Weighing different objects - Gracie and Raf.
  • Playing mermaids with Daisy and Sophie - India and Loris .
  • Making the cave where Jesus was buried in sand - George.
  • Writing my Easter acrostic poem - Bea.
  • Going on the scooter with Bea - Penny

Have a fabulous and sunny weekend!
