We have enjoyed another busy week of learning across the curriculum!
In English, we have been exploring the story Last Stop on Market Street by Matt de la Peña. Kids Book Read Aloud Story 📚Last Stop on Market Street 🥖🧺 by Matt de la Peña - YouTube We discussed the characters, events and themes within the story and thought carefully about how the characters might be feeling at different points. Using this understanding, we began writing expanded noun phrases and sentences to describe feelings.
In Maths, Year 1 have been exploring numbers to 20, developing their understanding of counting, recognising and ordering numbers. Year 2 have been learning about hexagons and octagons and identifying lines of symmetry in different shapes.
In Phonics, Year 1 have been learning the grapheme 'ea' making the /ee/ sound and have practised reading and spelling words containing this pattern. Year 2 have been learning the spelling pattern 'gn', exploring how it appears in words and applying it in reading and writing.
In RE, we explored the story of David and Goliath and discussed the important messages that Jewish people can learn from the story, including courage, faith and perseverance when facing challenges.
In History, we learnt about the key people in charge during the Great Fire of London and considered the actions they took. We discussed who might have been responsible for the fire spreading and shared our own opinions using evidence from what we had learnt.
In Science, we explored the difference between pets and wild animals and identified reasons why people choose to keep pets, including companionship, care and responsibility.
In Art, we created handprint paintings and explored primary colours. We practised mixing colours to create new shades and used these to make colourful patterns, developing our understanding of colour and creativity.
In Music, we practised our Harvest Festival songs and worked hard on our singing ready for our celebration.
In PE, we continued to develop our team-building skills, working together to solve challenges and support one another. We also continued to enjoy playing cricket, practising our batting, bowling and fielding skills.
In Explore and Learn, we continued to explore the Great Fire of London, enjoying retelling the story through our play and learning. We created our own pictures, tools and maps, helping us to deepen our understanding of this significant historical event through creativity and exploration.

- Making handprint art - Eddie and Alice.
- Playing with Winnie lots of fun games - BeaBea.
- Looking at symmetry by painting planes - Loris.
We are very proud of all the hard work and enthusiasm shown this week and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!
