Willow Class School Blog Summer 2 Week 6

Date: 10th Jul 2026 @ 8:30am

This week has been full of exciting learning opportunities across the curriculum, and I have been so impressed with the enthusiasm and effort shown by all of the children.

In English, we have been learning about pirate poetry. The children have enjoyed exploring pirate-themed poems, identifying rhyming words and performing poems with expression and enthusiasm. We have also created our own pirate poems, using exciting vocabulary and imaginative ideas to bring our pirate adventures to life. I have been incredibly impressed with the children's creativity and confidence when sharing their work.

In Maths, the Year 1 children have been learning to identify different coins and understand their values. They have worked hard to recognise a range of coins and compare different amounts of money. The Year 2 children have been exploring statistics, learning how to collect and interpret data using tallycharts and pictograms. They have enjoyed recording information, analysing data and answering questions based on their findings.

In Science, we have been exploring habitats and microhabitats. The children learned about the different environments where plants and animals live and how these habitats provide for their needs. We then designed and drew our own microhabitats, carefully labelling the plants and animals that might be found there. In Geography, we have been learning about the Jurassic Coast and its physical features. The children explored how natural processes have shaped this famous coastline and identified features such as cliffs, beaches and rock formations. We also looked at Weymouth and discussed why it is such an important tourist destination, including its sandy beach, historic harbour and range of attractions.

As part of our Teddy Bears' Picnic play project, the children designed and made their own cake stands, picnic baskets, teddy bear models and invitations, showing fantastic imagination and creativity throughout. Today, we celebrated the end of our project with a special Teddy Bears' Picnic. The children brought their teddies to school and enjoyed playing board games, singing songs and sharing stories together. It was wonderful to see them demonstrating excellent turn-taking, communication and social skills while having fun with their friends.

We also had our move up morning and had a briliant time!

What we have enjoyed:

  • Drawing the classroom and adding teddies in - Gracie.
  • Making an invitation for a teddy bear - Grey, Noah and Archie.
  • Making bunting for the teddy bear picnic - Daisy-Mai.
  • Learning about Weymouth - Felix and Edie.
  • Making a basket for the teddy bear picnic - Loris and India.
  • Weighing objects in Maths - Octaviah and Della.
