Willow Class School Blog Summer 2 Week 5
Date: 2nd Jul 2026 @ 6:18pm
Another busy week in Willow!
In Maths, the Year 1 have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division. We have been making equal groups, creating arrays and practising grouping and sharing objects to solve problems. Year 2 have worked extremely hard on money, learning how to make different amounts using a variety of coins and notes. We have also challenged ourselves to find change and explain our reasoning.
In English, Group 1 demonstrated their fantastic writing skills by creating their own independent instructions. Group 2 enjoyed writing pirate-themed diary entries, imagining life as a pirate at sea. We are all looking forward to ending the term with some exciting pirate-themed poetry next week.
In Geography, we explored the features of different coastlines and learned about what makes each one unique. Using Google Earth, we located key coastal areas around the UK and compared their physical features and appearance. We also identified and discussed the human and physical features found at the coast, helping us to understand how people use and interact with these environments.
In PSHE, we talked about what it means to be a kind friend and how we can solve problems positively. We discussed the importance of treating others with respect and making sure that we are also treated respectfully by our friends.
In RE, we explored the theme of praise. We reflected on our own strengths and qualities and wrote ourselves a compliment, helping us to recognise what makes each of us special.
In Science, we were lucky to welcome students from Cirencester College, who taught us all about minibeasts. We had the exciting opportunity to hold a millipede, snails and stick insects! We also learned about animal life cycles and food chains. Many of us showed great courage when handling the animals and asked thoughtful questions to deepen our learning.
During our Play Project, we enjoyed applying our learning about the seaside. We carefully copied detailed shell drawings, creating beautiful artwork inspired by our seaside theme. We created bright and colourful sun pictures and designed and made working fishing rods, testing and improving our creations as we worked. We also used our geography knowledge to identify human and physical features of the coast.
We have enjoyed:
- Making a jellyfish - George.
- Making my fishing rod out of cotton reels, wool and dowells - Bea.
- Making a train and a train ticket for my train journey - Loris.
- Making my fishing net - Gracie.
- Holding the animals when we were learning about insects - Alfie, Woody, Daisy and Penny.
- Writing instructions to find the pirate treasure - Della.
- Making a fishing rod - Frankie.
- Making a fish on a rock - Alicja.
- Using the water to explore capacity - Archie.
- Making a fishing rod game with Alice - Felix.
- Making a functional bucket and spade - Roberta.
Have a fabulous weekend,
Miss Jackson, Mrs Gardener and Willow Class
