Willow Class School Blog Summer 2 Week 4
Date: 26th Jun 2026 @ 8:39am
This week, we have had another busy and exciting time in class, with lots of wonderful learning across the curriculum.
In phonics, Year 1 have been learning how to add the prefix un- to words, while Year 2 have been exploring the prefix dis-. We enjoyed spotting these prefixes in different words and using them in their own reading and writing.
In English, our learning has been full of creativity. Group 1 have been writing their own set of instructions to help someone find pirate treasure, carefully thinking about clear steps and bossy verbs. Group 2 have been writing diary entries based on a day in the life of a pirate, using their imagination to describe thoughts, feelings and experiences at sea.
In Maths, both year groups have worked incredibly hard on their arithmetic and problem-solving skills this week, tackling each question with enthusiasm and determination. In our Maths fluency sessions, Year 1 reviewed number bonds to 10, while Year 2 focused on adding two 2-digit numbers.
In RE, we discussed places where we feel calm and created drawings of these special places. In PSHE, we talked about how to look after a baby and explored the basic needs they require. In computing, we focused on editing text and correcting mistakes.
In Geography, we learnt about the coast and identified the oceans around the United Kingdom, helping us to understand more about the wider world.
We also had a fantastic Sports Day on Monday, where we showed great teamwork, resilience and effort throughout. Everyone supported each other brilliantly. We also celebrated Miss Jackson’s birthday with party games and an ice pop to cool us down – although this did mean Miss Jackson had to do lots of birthday bounces!
Our play project this week has focused on insects. We have been reading books, researching facts, labelling diagrams, making models and creating our own bug houses. We also learnt about the important role insects and minibeasts play in our ecosystem. Teeny Tiny Creatures - Series 1 - Ferne and Rory: 3. Woodlice - BBC iPlayer
