Willow Class School Blog Summer 1 Week 3
Date: 1st May 2026 @ 12:13pm
This week, we have been busy exploring a wide range of exciting learning across the curriculum.
In Maths, Year 1 have explored turns, learning about full, half, quarter and three‑quarter turns. We also developed our understanding of direction by identifying clockwise and anticlockwise movements. Year 2 have completed their work on height and have moved on to fractions, where we have been finding one third of shapes and objects.
In English, Group 1 have been learning about verbs, using the suffix -ed, identifying nouns and using exclamation marks correctly. We also boxed up the original story to help us understand its structure. In Year 2, we have focused on adverbials of time, speech and onomatopoeia to make our writing more exciting and engaging for the reader.
In Reading, Year 2 have finished enjoying Mr Majika, while Year 1 have loved reading Leaf, sharing their thoughts and talking about the story together.
In Science, we learned about the human life cycle, identifying the five main stages. We discussed the similarities and differences between babies and adults, linking this to our understanding of how humans grow and change.
In History, we began our new seaside topic by comparing the beach today with beaches over 100 years ago in Victorian times. We learned about bathing machines, seaside traditions and how people travelled to the coast. We then wrote postcards as Victorian children describing a visit to the beach.
In RE, we finished our learning about Easter by designing and creating Easter eggs. In PSHE, we talked about healthy eating and why it is important to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, drawing these around our hands.
In Music, we continued learning Rockpool Rock, practising singing while combining the actions to the hand jive. In Computing, we developed our typing skills by using computers to type sentences. In DT we painted the bodies of our pull along toys.
For our play project, we have been exploring the seaside. We found out about Weymouth and created fishing rods, boats, beach scenes and sandcastles. We used atlases to locate the coast and applied our learning through creative play. We were particularly impressed by the science knowledge shared by Felix and Alice, who organised animals into groups and habitats using the Kapla resources. - Writing my 5x times tables up to 100 - Roberta.
- Making a rainbow flag - Frankie.
- Trying to build the Eiffel Tower using Kapla - Daisy.
- Making my cardboard car - Edie and Alicja.

We are very proud of all the learning and enthusiasm shown this week.
