Willow Class School Blog Autumn 2 Week 1

Date: 6th Nov 2026 @ 12:42pm

Welcome back!

This week in Maths, our Year 1 children have been exploring triangles, creating patterns and solving triangle shape puzzles. In Year 2, we have been practising addition using Dienes equipment, adding multiples of 10, and adding two 2-digit numbers together.

In Science, we began learning about the four seasons and how they change throughout the year. We created season wheels to help us identify and understand the characteristics of each season. In RE, we listened to the Christmas story and discussed why different versions and illustrations of the story exist. In Music, we have continued learning our Nativity songs and can now perform the first three songs without looking at the lyrics. We have also been practising Scene 1. This week in English, we finished our learning based on Last Stop on Market Street by describing the soup kitchen setting. We also started a new Free Write Friday theme, exploring the story of a lost teddy bear. We used our imaginations to think about who the teddy might belong to, how it became lost, and how we could help it find its way home. In DT, we explored mechanisms and investigated how sliding pictures work. In PSHE, we talked about what it means to be a kind friend. We discussed whether Kiki and Derek were being kind to Harold and shared our ideas about showing kindness to others. In History, we unravelled clues to learn about the life of Florence Nightingale and the important changes she made to hospitals and nursing. We also looked at firework night and understood the story behind why it is celebrated.  Guy Fawkes and The Gunpowder Plot | History KS1| BBC Teach

We began a new play project based on the question, "Who is Florence Nightingale and why is she remembered?" We created our own ambulance and hospital models, designed badges, and some of us even wrote our own books about Florence Nightingale.

What a busy and exciting week we have had! Please continue to practise your lines for the Nativity at home so that we can all feel confident and ready for our performance in December. We can't wait to share it with you soon!

Have a fabulous weekend!
