Willow Class School Blog Autumn 1 Week 7
Date: 15th Oct 2026 @ 7:38pm
This week, we have enjoyed lots of exciting learning across the curriculum.
In RE, we learned about Hanukkah and discovered why it is celebrated as the Festival of Lights. We enjoyed finding out about the traditions and special celebrations associated with this important festival, alongside the story behind it.
In Maths, the Year 1 children have been learning about tens and ones and using dienes to build numbers. We know 10 ones is the same as a ten stick. We have also been practising counting in 2s. The Year 2 children have been identifying the faces of 3D shapes, completing shape puzzles and learning that addition is commutative, which means numbers can be added in any order and the total stays the same.
In English, we started preparing for Michael Rosen's birthday by writing our own silly poems. Michael Rosen's "Chocolate Cake" We also enjoyed discussing Last stop on Market Street and thinking carefully about how CJ was feeling at different points and why. Year 2s used conjunctions. We have also finished practising our ladder letters.
We have also begun learning our Nativity songs and have been practising enthusiastically ready for our performance. Today we will be coming home with a letter sharing our parts. Stable Hoedown - Hay Bale Hotel Nativity - Sing Along Join Us On A Journey - Hay Bale Hotel Nativity - Sing Along
In History, we continued our learning about the Great Fire of London and designed our own new London, reflecting on the changes needed. We thought carefully about how we could rebuild the city and make it safer after the fire. We put in wider streets, spaces between houses and made the houses out of bricks. In Science, we finished our topic on animals by quizzing ourselves on what we have learnt. In PSHE we looked at different scenarios and discussed how the children may feel in each situation e.g. going to a birthday party and we may feel excited.
We also performed beautifully and showed great courage in church this week, performing 'Big red combine harvester' to the school and families. In Art, we created plates inspired by Clarice Cliff, creating concentric circles and adding a tree. They look incredible!
We are very proud of all our hard work this week and are looking forward to more exciting learning next week!
Have a fabulous weekend!
