Willow Class Blog Summer 2 Week 4
Date: 28th Jun 2025 @ 9:22am
We can't believe we only have 3 weeks left before the summer holidays! We have had a busy week in Willow this week and the children have impressed us by their resilience and attitude to learning this week. We have completed lots of quizzes and they have all tackled them with great confidence and enthusiasm. We are so proud of how much progress they have made.
We also started our new Geography topic 'Why is our world wonderful?'. We revisited the capital cities and used Google maps to identify landmarks around the UK. We also identified whether these are physical or human features.
In English, we finished learning our story 'Trixie Stickybeak' and focused on developing our understanding of adjectives to describe Trixie. Year 2 also looked at similes and using inverted commas to portray how someone is feeling. We loved the inverted commas song: The Direct Speech Song (Inverted Commas). Next week we will begin to plan our own innovation.
In Maths this week Y1s sequenced times and events and yesterday we enjoyed exploring how long it takes to do different tasks. We also had to count to a minute and see how close we were. We are going to challenge our grown ups to this game at home. Year 2s continued to explore pictograms and will move onto block diagrams next week.
We had additional PE sessions this week and it was lovely for Year 1 to have a session with Maple. Year 2 had an additional cricket session yesterday and loved it! We also practised our dribbling skills and hockey technique in PE yesterday. In Art we began to create our Tree of Life sculptures.
We finished yesterday off by having a circle time. We discussed changes that are upcoming and discussed how we are feeling. This led us on to discuss how grown ups also experience change and how many of our grown ups have lots of different jobs. We discussed how you have to learn how to do these different jobs. We are going to ask our grown ups this weekend about how they became a ... We also reflected on what we want to do when we are older. We had lots of vets, teachers, builders alongside some different animals we would like to be. Year 2s began to complete their transition passports for Mrs Mckay all about them and Year 1s have been making posters to share with Maple about what they love about Willow.
We also showed off our dance moves and played some party games on Tuesday to celebrate Miss Jackson's birthday. Thank you for all the birthday wishes.
Next week, we will be getting all crafty making our socks, srunchies and bracelets to sell at our stall. We are all very excited and are very grateful for all the donations so far.
In Explore and Learn this week we developed 2 play projects - one around Stonehenge and the other as it was minibeast week. We have had Stonehenge made using crates, lots of insect houses and some brillaint minibeast drawings. We have also enjoyed using the guttering this week to make tracks. On the 7th of July it is national chocolate day so we decided next week's play project will be based around chocolate! We will also look at Charlie and the Chocolate factory for inspiration. For our snack station next week the children have also asked if they can make some fruit kebabs so Miss Jackson will be grabbing some fruit for next week as it is going to be very hot!
We have enjoyed this week:
- Writing our own stories using pictures - Gracie and Raf.
- Learning all about inverted commas - Teddy.
- Cricket - Annabelle and Roman.
- Playing hockey - Penny and Bea.
- Making an airport using the guttering - Freddie.
- Making a house for Finley's 4 buddies - Felix and Finley.
- Looking at landmarks on Google Maps.
- Celebrating Miss Jackson's birthday - George.
Have a lovely weekend!
