Willow Class Blog Summer 2 Week 2
Date: 14th Jun 2025 @ 9:51am
What a busy week we have had in Willow Class.
We have enjoyed exploring the theme of the Royal Family this week in our play project. We created birthday cards for the King, constructed our own castles and with Maple class enjoyed practising our marching after watching clips from the Trooping of the Colour. This weekend look out for it on TV! We have in History discussed how different materials have changed and looked closely at children from different time periods to look at how some toys are still made that were played with years ago. We watched this video to look at how toys have evolved in the last 100 years. 100 Years of Toys ★ Glam.com In Art, we continued to look at paper structures and use strips of paper to create different folding techniques. In our Science lessons we explored the plant life cycle and drew our own cycles including vocabulary like germination and dispersal. In RE we continued to explore the story of Jesus and the disciples. We began to look at the local charity - Cirencester Food Bank Home | Cirencester Foodbank. We explored how the work the charity does supports people local to us. We have also sent some questions we have about the charity to Mr Roache as he is a volunteer at the food bank. We look forward to hearing from him. In PE, we continued to practise our egg and spoon skills and finished the session in the shade with the parachute. We played the boa constrictor Eats, fruit salad, cat and mouse and tried to get the parachute to mushroom. This was very tricky!
We started our new text Trixie Stickybeak this week and learnt all about fairy penguins. We also explored Sydney Harbour and identified Australia and Sydney on the map. Julia has previously lived in Australia so helped us by sharing her memories. She is going to bring in some photos to show us. We boxed up the story and learnt the opening of the story. We also shared what we liked, disliked, questions we had and identified any patterns in the story. We all felt sad when Trixie got lost in the ocean but were very happy when the lifeboats saved her. Year 2s wrote a postcard from Trixie to the lifeboat crew to say thank you. Year 1s in Maths this week have enjoyed ordering and learning the days of the week and months of the year. We are moving onto telling the time next week! We find these songs very helpful to remember the order. Months of the Year Song | Song for Kids | The Singing Walrus and Days of the Week Song | The Singing Walrus. Year 2s have started learning all about data and statistics. We have interpreted data and drew our own tables and pictograms.
What we have enjoyed:
- Making my own campsite using my DT license using dowles fabric and paper. Annabelle.
- Getting my DT license – Charlie.
- Making my lollipop alien for the whole family – Roberta.

We have also enjoyed at our snack station this week eating strawberries, rasperries and lettuces homegrown from Miss Jackson's garden. We are almost ready to pick our spinach and radishes in our class garden. Next week we will be adding tomatoes to our garden.
We are very excited for Sports day next Tuesday morning. Next week is forcasted to be very hot so please ensure suncream is applied before school and hats are brought in. Next week is World Turtle day and Summer solstice so we will explore these themes in provision next week.
Have a fabulous sunny weekend!
