Willow Class Blog Summer 2 Term 6 Week 6

Date: 11th Jul 2025 @ 6:00pm

What a scorching end to the week! We have had a lovely Friday, looking at instructions, making sandwiches, water play and having a lovely teddy bears picnic with Maple. We even squeezed a quick shady game of Maple vs. Willow dodgeball. We also made our own solar ovens and melted our s'mores for National chocolate day on Tuesday.

We have squeezed a lot in a very busy week. We have created our own finger puppets this week. We learnt how to sew a running stitch to create the puppet shape. We then used our expert glue gun skills to create features of our animal. We are very proud of our perseverance with our sewing and have learnt now how to keep the thread on the needle. They look amazing! Next year the children have asked if we can earn a seperate sewing license so Gracie with Mrs Gardener has been busy creating a new license.

We have also started to write our adventure stories inspired by Trixie Stickybeak this week and will finish the final paragraphs at the start of next week. We have been using our knowledge of similies to create brilliant descriptions of our animals. We also looked at some fantastic videos about penguins to inspire some poetry. We loved this one! Criminal Penguins - Frozen Planet - BBC We each came up with some adjectives to describe and looked at rhyming patterns. We began to learn a poem to the tune of twinkle, twinkle little star and we will be learning some actions next week.

We also had move up morning where the Year 2s wowed Mrs Mckay with their knowledge of similies to create fantastic descriptive writing pieces. Year 1s were excellent buddies to the Maple children and we had a lovely morning learning routines and creating some beautiful art work inspired by the story 'The Dot by Peter H Reynolds'. The Dot by Peter H Reynolds : a wonderful story about art and creativity for kids. We are just putting them on display and can't wait to share them with you.

We finished our final full maths lessons for the year this week with Year 1s looking at coin recognition. We had great fun looking at the values and features of coins and sorting them into their value. Year 2s finished by looking at temperature and reading scales. We will continue to practise our counting daily.

Next week we will complete our final play project of the year based around the theme of celebration looking at our favourite moments from the year and achievements we have made. We had a brilliant week creating picnic baskets, decorations, invites and very cute hats for our teddies. We will also be finishing our Geography learning on our wonderful world and making a very special and personal tie-dye end of year gift.

We have enjoyed this week:

  • Making my puppet cat Marnie - Charlie.
  • Writing my story - Annabelle.
  • Water play - Roberta.
  • Shuffle up morning and being with the Year 3s - Humphrey.
  • When Maple came to our class - Edie.
  • Sorting coins - Raf.
  • Counting £10 notes in Explore and Learn - Archie.
  • Making Teddy bears out of playdoh - Archie.
  • Our Teddy bear picnic and Miss Jackson being very silly when following our instructions.

We have a lovely final week together next week and look forward to some fun activities we have planned.

Have a lovely weekend and stay safe in the sun!
