Willow Class Blog Summer 1 Week 6

Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 12:31pm

This week, we have enjoyed lots of exciting learning!

In English, we have been developing our creativity by writing our own invented narratives. We used our imaginations to create interesting characters, settings, and story plots. We worked hard to include descriptive language and made sure our stories had a clear beginning, middle, and end. We loved sharing our ideas with each other and listening to everyone’s unique stories.

In maths, we have been focusing on different skills. In Year 1, we have been learning about the days of the week. We practised putting the days in order and talked about what we do on different days, helping us to understand time in our everyday lives. In our maths fluency sessions, we explored part-whole models to help us understand how numbers are made. In Year 2, we have been learning how to tell the time, focusing on quarter past and quarter to. We have been using clocks to help us recognise these times and practised reading different clock faces. In maths fluency, we have been learning about doubles and near doubles to help us calculate more quickly.

In Science, we explored the life cycle of a chicken. We drew our own diagrams and identified the four stages: egg, hatchling, chick, and adult chicken. We enjoyed learning how chickens grow and change over time and took care to label each stage clearly. In History, we stepped back in time to the Victorian era and created our own posters to advertise the seaside. We carefully thought about the colours, pictures, and text we used to make our posters eye-catching and appealing, just like real Victorian advertisements. In DT, we learned about different food groups and the importance of a balanced diet. We then designed our own healthy menus, thinking carefully about how to include a variety of foods to keep our bodies strong and healthy. In PSHE, we discussed our morning routines and thought about how we can stay healthy and stop the spread of germs. We shared our ideas and created informative posters to display around the school, reminding everyone how to keep themselves and others safe.In RE, we have been learning about Islam and explored the Five Pillars of Islam. We also thought about the importance of worship and created our own special prayer mats. We carefully designedthem to show respect and understanding of how Muslims practise their faith.

In Explore and Learn, we have continued to learn about VE Day. We carried out further research into the day and the events leading up to it, helping us to understand why it was so important. We also created some fantastic seaside bathing machine models, showing great creativity and attention to detail. We also had an amazing morning cooking with Mel. We made delicious fish and chips, as well as special ice cream cone cupcakes. We had lots of fun following recipes, working together, and of course tasting our creations!

Today, we said a fond farewell to Sophie and wish her all the very best in her new school. We will miss her and hope she settles in happily.

Have a fabulous and sunny half term break!
