This Week in Class
What a wonderfully busy and exciting final week of term we’ve had!
Tasting Chinese Food
This week, we had the chance to try some delicious Chinese food, including prawn crackers and spring rolls. We really enjoyed exploring new flavours together!
Dance
In dance, we continued refining our routines. We combined different sections to improve our timing, unison, and paired movements, and we were so proud of how well we worked as a team. See the videos below of our finished routines.
Maths
- Year 1 explored number facts for 14 and 15, finding all the related addition and subtraction facts.
- Year 2 finished learning about position and direction by programming Bee-Bots and creating repeating patterns. We also began learning our 2 times table, showing brilliant enthusiasm!
English
We created beautiful star-themed poems inspired by Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Together, we produced this lovely class poem:
Twinkle, Twinkle shining heart,
I can softly play my harp,
You have been a shining star,
We will miss you when you are afar,
Twinkle, Twinkle shining heart,
I can softly play my harp.
We dedicated our poem to Miss Lee, who leaves today for an exciting adventure abroad. We have loved performing and sharing poetry this week.
History
In history, we sequenced the key events of the moon landing, thinking carefully about timelines and why this event was so important.
RE
In RE, we read the story of Jonah and the Big Fish and then mapped out the story, exploring the key themes of bravery, forgiveness, and listening to others.

Art
We practised different shading techniques to help us add depth and detail to our self‑portraits, which we will finish after half term.
PSHE – Children’s Mental Health Week
We explored the importance of diet, exercise, and sleep, and talked about the wide range of emotions we might feel and how we can manage them in healthy ways. We enjoyed watching the moodbooster clips when discussing different emotions. Feeling Better - BBC Teach
Safer Internet Day
This year, we focused on AI (Artificial Intelligence). We discussed how to use AI safely:
1. Always use it with an adult.
2. Don’t believe everything it tells you.
3. Check information is correct using trusted sources.
4. Never share images or personal details.
KS1 Worship
We stood and shared our Show and Tell with Maple Class. Speaking in front of another class took real courage, and we were very proud of ourselves.
Play Project – Valentine’s Day & Hippos!
As part of our play project, we learned about the history of Valentine’s Day, using this link to find out more:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/articles/z6298hv
We then created thank‑you cards, bunting, and other crafts for the people we love.
We also recognised International Hippo Day. We researched hippo facts, made hippo drawings, and created small‑world hippo environments.
TTRS and Numbots Logins
We have sent home our TTRS (Times Tables Rock Stars) and Numbots logins this week. These platforms are excellent for practising number facts, and we’d love families to explore them with us over the half term if they’d like to.
What we have enjoyed this term:
- Building a house using Lego - Alfie, Felix, Szymon, Leo.
- Science - drawing the different clothing and fabric to wear during different weathers - Bea.
- Writing facts about the human body - Raf and Gracie.
- Beginning to learn my 2x table - Alicja.
- Making my bird box using a box, fabric and pipe cleaners acting as sticks - Loris.
- Making a valentines card for my mum - Della, Grey.
- Making stories with Julia - Edie.
- Making a firework - Archie and Noah.
- Playing a tag game with Bea - Daisy-Mai.
- Making an animal enclosure with the animals - Alice.
- Trying the chinese food - Roberta, Woody.
We finished the week with a 'Blind Date with a book' - we unwrapped a book that we may have never picked by seeing the cover or title. We loved reading new books and listening to our friends read.
Have a fabulous and restful half term!
We are looking forward to more fun and learning when we return.
