Willow Class Blog Spring 1 Week 5
Date: 6th Feb 2026 @ 3:54pm
What a wet end to the week! This week has been full of excitement, creativity and hard work across all our subjects, and we are proud to share everything we have been learning.
In Year 1, we explored the aw and au sounds making /or/. We enjoyed spotting them in words like claw, saw, pause and autumn, and practised reading and writing them in sentences. In Year 2, we learned how to add –est and –y to words ending in e. We found out that the final e usually disappears, and we practised with words such as nicest, shiny and largest.
In English, Group 1 worked hard on creating their own characters to knock on the little girl’s bedroom door, inspired by Sally Grindley’s Knock, Knock! Who’s There?. We looked closely at adjectives to describe our characters. Group 2 completed their independent hot writes, inventing their own versions of How to Catch a Star. We used adjectives, past tense, noun phrases and lots of creativity. In Maths, Year 1 explored the structure of the numbers 12 and 13, partitioning them in different ways. Year 2 finished their learning on division before moving on to position and direction. In Art, we traced a picture of our own face, focusing on shape, structure and sections inspired by Paul Klee.
In Science, we investigated materials to decide which would be best for making a bed, then designed our own beds for the Three Little Pigs. In PE, practised tumbles in gymnastics. In Music, we continued practising the Grandma Rap, adding actions for each line. In Computing, we programmed Bee-Bots around puzzles and pathways we designed ourselves. In PSHE, we explored the feeling of loss and discussed times when we have lost something.
We continued our play project based on Chinese New Year. We made red envelopes, decorations and learned about the traditions of Chinese New Year. Next week, Miss Jackson might let us try some special Chinese treats!
Have a fabulous weekend!
