Willow Class blog Autumn 2 Week 4
Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 3:57pm
What a fabulous but speedy week we have had! I know the children are very excited about the extra long weekend!
We started the week by deciding to plan our play project around dragons. We looked at a few dragon stories to give us inspiration. There Is No Dragon In This Story - Read Aloud We have created our own dragon designs, written stories and made places dragons may live. We have also enjoyed focusing on the designing part of DT to create some great projects, including making our own pet dogs, that follow us on a lead.
We have also explored patterns with shapes in the maths area, played addition domino and tens and ones games. Some of the year 2s even predicted how many links we had before counting them and measuring the length. We have also enjoyed reading different science books and exploring how magnets work. Mrs Gardener showed some children how magnets worked with trains.
We have continued to practise our nativity and had our first full run through with the stage and Maple class. We have still got lots of practise to do but the excitement is getting bigger and bigger. Please continue to practise - especially on voice projection.
In Maths Year 1 have explored number bonds to 7. Year 2s have looked at subtracting tens and ones. In English, Group 1 have finished practising their transcription skills by answering key questions from the story Dragon Machine by Helen Ward. Group 2 have been designing and boxing up their instructions for their own machine. Miss Jackson’s traps unicorns by projecting a rainbow and sprinkling glitter. Ask us what ours does.
In RE we looked at how Jews may choose to show their faith. We also talked about how religion may bring a sense of belonging to some people. In phonics we have learnt new sounds! Year 1 have learnt /ch/ making the c sound for Christmas and /ch/ making the sh sound for chef. Year 2s have learnt /el/ making the l sound like in camel.
We have got all crafty this week making cards for the local community and today preparing our christingles. We are looking forward to celebrating tonight. We also revisited kindness and made our own kindness capes. Look at the photos they are absolutely amazing! We reflected on how we have been kind and what we can do to be kind to decorate our cape. Remember kindness is our superpower!
At Forest School we had a cold one but had great fun making wooden structures and exploring with clay.
Have a fantastic long weekend!
