Willow Class Blog Autumn 1 Week 8

Date: 24th Oct 2025 @ 5:02pm

What an amazing term we have had in Willow. It has been amazing to see how blended and settled we have become of a class. The Year 1s are now settled into routine and thriving. Each of them have now earned their DT licenses, well done to Alice and Szymon this week. Year 2s have been brilliant and supportive role models and we are incredibly proud.

We began the week by looking at Diwali. We watched CBeebies | Diwali | My First Festivals to remind ourselves about the festival. We planned our play project around the theme. We have made mehndi patterns, rangoli and paper plate diva lamps. They look fabulous! We have continued to learn the violin and look forward to performing to you after half term. We wowed Miss Jackson with our knowledge of Amy Johnson and she has truly captured our imagination and hearts. We look forward to our trip!

In English group 1 have continued to enjoy describing different animals including bats, cows and cats (Miss Jackson’s favourite!). Group 2 have finished their Meerkat fact files and are quite the expert on Meerkats now! Ask them all about it!

Year 1s in Maths have looked at odd and even numbers – we loved building number block towers. This is a great episode to reinforce odd and even numbers - Numberblocks - Series 2: Odds and Evens - BBC iPlayer. We then moved on to number bonds to 6. Year 2s have looked at using number lines to add single digits to 2-digit numbers, using facts to 10 to solve facts to 100 and looking at methods for adding 9. It has been challenging!

In Science, we completed our learning on the senses and had to guess the food item based on its smell. We guessed the banana straight away! The garlic stank! It was described as disgusting! We couldn’t believe it when Miss Jackson revealed it is added to lots of our food. We learnt the importance of nose hairs too!

In PSHE, we talked about being a good friend. We also talked about problem solving and practiced using our calm and firm voices to tell a friend how we are feeling. We have enjoyed practising our CEW and every day we are getting more confident at writing them. We are now on song 2 from our nativity and already ‘Bethlehem Bake off’ is stuck in our heads. Practise them here: Bethlehem Bake-Off - Bethlehem Bake-Off Nativity- Sing Along and Tale Of The Shepherds - Bethlehem Bake-Off Nativity- Sing Along.

Scripts have gone home today! Amongst resting it would be great if the children can begin to learn their lines. We will begin rehearsals after half term. If you couldn’t tell Miss Jackson and Mrs Gardener are super excited! We have also loved wearing our pyjamas today.

We have enjoyed:

  • I enjoyed adding 10s to 2-digit numbers - Roberta.
  • I enjoyed making my butterfly - George.
  • Making my handcuffs using the chain links - Archie.
  • I enjoyed racing at lunchtime with my friends - Woody.
  • I liked making a plant feeder using wheels - Ralph.
  • I liked drawing in Explore and Learn - Daisy-Mai.
  • I liked playing horses with Bunny - Octaviah.
  • I like when Mr Stone spent some time with us - Edie.
  • I enjoyed making a super pine cone - Alice.
  • I loved PJ day - Gracie and Della.

Have a fabulous break and stay safe!

We look forward to the chaos of the Christmas term to begin!
