Willow Class Blog Autumn 1 Week 5
Date: 4th Oct 2025 @ 11:27am
What a windy and wet end to the week!
Willow have had another fantastic week of learning. We started the week by planning a play project to fit with 'Black History Month' around Rosa Parks. The Rosa Parks story (dramatisation) | History - True Stories. We enjoyed retelling the story, constructing our own buses and also wrote poems about respect and her bravery. Next week is Space week so we will be exploring all things space. Well done to Felix and Frankie for earning their DT licenses. Also Penny was the first Willow to earn her sewing licenses after mastering the running stitch.
In English, we all started writing our innovated stories based on Meerkat mail. The children have enjoyed changing the places Sunny has visited and we are really proud of how hard the children have used sound talking to accurately sound out. They have also listened to adult examples to carefully follow a structure. Next week the children will complete a hot write (independent write) using the text as inspiration. In Maths Year 1s have looked carefully at circles, rectangles and triangles this week. Year 2s have looked at octogans and have loved our symmetry lessons - creating their own plane was a highlight!
In History we acted out the reaction to Amy Johnson landing in Australia and looked at sources to see what people thought about the event. In Art we used our collected natural resources to create natural art. In Forest school the children enjoyed making necklaces and clay sculptures. The children also enjoyed their cricket sessions with Charlie. In RE we looked at the creation story and wrote thank you prayers to God for his creation of the world. Edie made us all smile when she wrote 'Thank you for the teachers'. In Worship we talked about not giving up and Miss Jackson shared her hare painting she had created. The children were so inspired they asked if Miss Jackson would share how to do it. Yesterday we began drawing the outline. We also talked in worship about caring and looking after animals. We looked at the work of Jane Goodall and her dedication to her work with chimpanzees.
In Science we looked at taste. We enjoyed trying different spreads looking at the flavour of them. Marmite was our least favourite as it was very bitter. We enjoyed the sweetness of the honey and jam. Lemon was very sour.
What we have enjoyed:
- Taste testing different spreads – George.
- Tasting the sweet jam – Bea.
- Tasting the honey – Daisy-Mae.
- We acted out Rosa Parks on the bus – Grey and Loris.
- Making the symmetry planes – Noah and Archie.
- Making my Lego space station – Woody and Alfie.
- Playing with Alice – Ralph.
- Doing forest school making clay acorns – Leo.
- Playing with Ralph and Alice – Felix.
- Making a bracelet at forest school – India.
- Folding the planes to create a symmetrical pattern – Penny.
- Acting out Amy Johnson landing in Australia and being Australians – Della and Roberta.
- Making a doggy rubbish eater – Alice.
Have a fabulous weekend,
