Willow Class Blog Autumn 1 Week 2

 We’ve had another fabulous week of learning in Willow, filled with curiosity, teamwork and lots of proud moments.

We explored the similarities and differences between mammals and birds. We looked closely at their body features, how they move, and what makes each group special. We enjoyed sorting animals and discussing what we noticed.

In Maths, Year 1 have been counting forwards and finding one more, using number tracks, cubes and matching. Year 2 have been representing numbers on a number line, thinking carefully about where each number belongs and how number lines help us understand value.

Year 1 have been learning the ay grapheme for the ai sound and Year 2 have been exploring y making the igh sound at the end of words.

In RE, we looked at different Jewish artefacts and mezuzahs, discussing what you might find in a Jewish home and why these items are important. We revisited the Zones of Regulation, talking about different emotions, how they feel in our bodies, and what strategies we can use to help ourselves when we need support.

In PE, we practised our underarm throwing and developed our dodging skills, working on accuracy, control and spatial awareness In Art, we explored colour mixing using the primary colours, experimenting with how new colours arecreated and enjoying lots of hands-on painting. In History, we began our learning on the Great Fire of London. We sequenced the events, acted as detectives to uncover clues, worked out the date, and discussed how the fire started.

In English, we practised our curly caterpillar letters o, d and g, focusing on formation and control. We’ve also been writing sentences with verbs, and Year 2 have been working on using conjunctions because and and to extend their ideas.

We identified technology in our school and community, thinking about what technology is used for and how it helps us.

Our play project asked the question: “How can we transport animals?” We created animal passports, adapted vehicles to make them suitable for different animals, and explored world maps to think about where animals might travel.

We have enjoyed:
