Willow Class blog Autumn 1 Week 1
Date: 5th Sep 2025 @ 6:59pm
What a fantastic week we have had in Willow! It has been brilliant to see the new Year 1s begin to adapt to new Willow routines and we are so proud of our Year 2s for being excellent role models and helping everyone along.
We have had a busy week of learning, beginning with finding our new carpet spots, sharing all about each other and creating special birthday cards to celebrate throughout the year. We have shown excellent independent writing skills this week, creating our own meerkat stories in preperation for learning our new text next week. Year 1s have also learnt the story mountain structure and drew out their own tell a story maps. Year 2s have reinforced this knowledge and written their own clearly structured stories. In Maths Year 1s have looked at counting objects and number structure using tens frames to represent numbers. Year 2s have looked at tens and ones and today at different ways of partitioning numbers. We have so far elected our Science ambassadors, well done to Della, Penny and Archie. We will decide our eco committee on Monday. Miss Jackson was so incredibly proud of each of us for sharing our reasons for joining the commitees with the whole class. We recapped our phonics sounds and played some games. In Science we learnt about different body parts and enjoyed labelling our own life-size drawings! We also looked at this afternoon the zones of regulation, recapping each zone and how we can help recognise our emotions. We enjoyed listening to the zones of regulation song: Zones | Songs for Kids | Domenic Bianco. We then talked about trusted adults both in school and at home. We also thought of our favourite places, toys and music that help us feel calm.
In Worship this week Mr Batchelor introduced our school value for this term respect. On Thursday during class worship we discussed how we show respect to our grown ups and with the help of volunteers we acted our scenarios, discussing choices. Miss Jackson used a balloon to represent how when we do not show respect, we deflate the balloon - which is a bit like our feelings. When we are respectful the balloon inflates which makes us feel happy. Miss Jackson reminded us how important it is to use manners and say thank you to our grown ups. We loved hearing how happy this made our grown ups. We sang the song this little light of mine, as we have the power to shine. This little light of mine We also spent lots of time in explore and learn talking about respect for the classroom and 'choose it, use it, tidy it away.
Well done to Opie for earning his DT license. We are so keen to earn them!
We enjoyed introducing the Year 1s to 'Happy Friday' and our Friday movement break of 'Power in me'. Power In Me - The music and the moves!
We have enjoyed this week:
Making a castle using cardboard with a working drawbridge – Archie
Playing with my friends after the holiday – Della.
Playing in the sand with Toby – Edie.
Learning the zones of regulation – Daisy-Mae.
Making a castle with Archie – Noah.
