Willow Class Autumn 2 Week 2
Date: 14th Nov 2025 @ 12:09pm
What an busy we have we have had in Willow. On Tuesday, we loved our trip to Bristol Aerospace. We enjoyed coding the robots around mars, exploring the different parts of a plane, looking at how planes have changed and our favourite part was having a guided tour of concorde. 1 mile in 2 seconds! We practiced counting and seeing how far our sticky boxes flew in that time. The children were excellent ambassadors for our school and asked some great questions. We also got to find out more about Amy Johnson and found out some facts about the moon, ready for our space topic.
Mrs Gardener has been taking us out in small groups to practise parts of the nativity. Miss Jackson is very impressed by how we are beginning to remember our lines. One more song to learn! Please keep practising lines, it is really important the children know who comes before and after them too. We learnt ‘Add a little love into your recipe’ this week. We began the week by looking at Remembrance Day. We looked at My First Festivals - Series 2: 8. Remembrance Day - BBC iPlayer to find out more about Remembrance Day. We also loved watching the poppies animation from CBeebies. Remembrance Day film for kids - CBeebies. Miss Jackson shared the story of Christmas on the battlefields during WW1 – Christmas Truce of 1914. We watched the famous Sainsbury’s advert to remind us of the story. 1914 | Sainsbury's Ad | Christmas 2014. We also looked at the meaning of the different coloured poppies. As part of our play project we created our own poppy wreaths, painted poppy stones, created air raid shelters using crates and sheets and also retold the story of the Christmas truce.
In English we have continued to look at our class text ‘The dragon machine’ by Helen Ward. The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward - YouTube. Group 1 have been exploring how George made the machine and Group 2 have looked at sequencing the story using adverbs of manner and time. Yesterday, was Michael Rosen day and we joined in with a live lesson with the man himself. He shared some food themed poetry and our favourite was chocolate cake! He left us very hungry! Chocolate Cake | POEM | Kids' Poems and Stories With Michael Rosen. We have begun to design our own cakes and written some poetry.
Year 1s in Maths have looked at counting forward and backwards with numbers to 100. We enjoyed using the chalk to write sequences and then jumping on the numbers as we read them. We have also become excellent at recognising the tens and ones in each number. We are experts! Year 2s have looked at subtraction not being commutative. We are now looking at subtracting single digits from 2 digit numbers.
In RE, we have looked at the religion of Islam this week. We practiced writing our names in calligraphy. It was world kindness day yesterday. We talked about how we can be kind in the world to help others. In Computing, we have used digital painting tools to create our own painting. PaintZ This week we used squares and rectangles to create art inspired by Mondrian.
In PE, we continued to learnt the rules of handball, practising our overarm throwing and intercepting skills. We had some rely races practising our throw and tried to pass the pall all along our class line without dropping it! We nearly did it! In Science, we looked at different materials and explored the different properties of each material.
