Week ending 3rd October
Date: 5th Oct 2025 @ 6:09pm
We are certainly in full swing, now, in Chestnut Class!
In English we have been writing our own versions of Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx, writing some fun riddles on Thursday.
I love the fact that a couple of the children have already noticed a huge improvement in their handwriting, thanks to our daily handwriting sessions, and we are enjoying our Word Detectives Work, where we investigate a new word and try to use it in our writing. So far, these have included: tranquil, scamper and ominous, among others!
In maths, it is great to see the children celebrating each other on Fridays, when we announce who has progressed in the times table and division tests. It's so important that the children have good recall of these (2, 5 and 10 by the end of Year 2; 3,4 and 8 by the end of Year 3 and ALL of the multiplication tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4). Rapid recal of these is not only necessary to pass the national Multiplication Test Check in Year 4, but, more importantly, it will help them calculate fractions, percentages, decimals, area and when using formal written methods for multiplying and division.
Swimming and Forest School seem to both be going well. As the weather gets colder and wetter, please ensure your child brings in all of the appropriate gear!
After missing a week, due to an English course, I was able to join in with the recorders session on Thursday. I could tell that progress is being made and you will be in for a treat on the performance day in November!
I can't believe it is now less than 2 weeks until our amazing trip to the Story telling Museum and the Ashmoleum. I think I am more excited than the kids at this point!
