Start of term 5

Date: 19th Apr 2026 @ 11:49am

The children have come back well after their Easter break and we are all now invested in the story of Oslaf, the protagonist, in The Winter of the Wolves, our class book. They have started to write a diary extract from his viewpoint and have begun well. This ties in very nicely with our Anglo Saxon learning and we were able to learn about how the Angles lived before coming to 'Britannia', as well as the reasons why they came, even before Mrs Nelson had started the History topic!

The PE teacher on Thursday was really happy with what they described as, 'The best session, yet!' with Chestnut Class. I hope this continues throughout the term!

On Monday, the children seemed pleased with the small changes I have made in the classroom and their new seating arrangements. As always, this plan will remain for the half term before changing again for term 6.

It sounds like the class had a lot of fun starting to learn the country dancing moves for the Barnsley Village show, in May. The group who represented our school, last year, had a great time, as I'm sure our current class will.

We had our first 'non-fiction Friday' this week - one of our small nods to the national year of reading. Many of the children were surprised at how much they enjoyed these factual books and are lookimg forward to next week's session.

Together we live, learn and flourish
