Maple Class - Term 5 week 4
Date: 23rd May 2025 @ 1:53pm
We’ve had another great week in Maple. All the children are excited for half term and have been busy telling us all their exciting holiday plans.
This week our focus book has been Whatever Next by Jill Murphy and we have been thinking about space and rockets. We had a brilliant couple of afternoons making junk model vehicles, which we will be showing to you this afternoon!
In phonics we have continued with our Level 4 Twinkl phonics, really thinking about the sounds in 4 phoneme words. Some of us have struggled to hear the second sounds in words such as s-w-i-ng, s-c-ar-f, d-r-o-p. We are confident at reading these words and we will continue to practise writing these words. Our independent sentence writing is really improving and we are coming up with brilliant ideas for sentences when shown a picture.
In maths we have been taking away from 10 using numicon pairs and learning the inverse operation. We have been using a number line to take away from 10, rolling a dice to determine what number we were taking away and we have been solving problems. We have also revisited weight, using the balancing scales the compared objects to see which was lighter and heavier.
We have been perfecting our country dancing in preparation for showing you on Friday afternoon.
Lisa from the library came in to read us stories this week, she read us Starpuff by Matilda Rose, There’s a Dragon In Your Book by Tom Fletcher and Sir Dancealot by Timothy Knapman. We always love Lisa visiting us and listen so beautifully to her reading us stories.
In our EYFS and KS1 worship we looked at the book Kindness is my Superpower by Alicia Ortego We talked about what a random act of kindness is. I have challenged the children to do a random act of kindness during half term, we look forward to hearing what they have been up to.
In Forest School this week we read A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson, brought into us by Daisy-Mai. We used the story characters to retell the story and made dens for the Little Old Woman. We also found our own sticks in the forest area and made our own Worry Buddy’s.
On Friday in PSED we had a discussion about moving to Willow class in September and talked about if we had any worries and who we could talk to about these. All children said they had no worries and they were excited about moving in Willow class. We will be doing lots of transition activities next term to prepare them fully for their move.
Congratulations to Octaviah, Daisy-Mai, India and Leone who received awards in our Celebration assembly today
We wish you all a fantastic half term, and we look forward to welcoming you back in June for our last term in Maple class.
