Maple Class - Summer 2, week 6
Date: 14th Jul 2025 @ 10:45pm
This week our focus was on woodland animals and therefore our focus book had to be The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We thought about the different woodland creatures and made a Gruffalo story world which we enjoyed to use to retell the story. We used our phonics knowledge to write some wonderful Gruffalo sentences in our phonics books - fabulous work Maple. I loved hearing you sound out the words you wanted to write, writing down the sounds you could hear. remembering your capital letter, finger spaces and full stops.
In Phonics this week we continued to review our Phase 4 phonics, writing and reading words and captions including polysyllabic words. We are becoming much more confident at sounding out the Phase 4 words, trying really hard not to miss any graphemes out when writing these down. We love to try and sound words out in our head before reading them out loud.
In maths we grouped objects into groups of 10 and identified tens numbers 10-100 and put them in order. Maple were all really confident with this and could easily order the numbers - great work.
This week was National Teddy Bears Picnic week, so of course we had to take advantage of this and have a teddy bears picnic on Friday! Our Play Project this week worked towards this - we had party hats made, for ourselves and our teddies, invites written. picnics set up and then we joined Willow on Friday, under the shade of the trees, to enjoy jam or honey sandwiches and then either a blueberry, chocolate chip or double chocolate chip muffin. They were delicious, we then had a game of dodgeball, before cooling off back inside.
Friday morning saw us have another morning of big water play - so much fun and excitement as well as turn taking and working together to transport water was witnessed.
In PSHE this week we looked at the story We're All Wonders writen and illustrated by R.J Palacio and talked about talk about empathy, difference and kindness.
We hope you had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunny weather.
One more week to go ... nearly there Maple ... you've been amazing, despite the hot weather and lack of energy.
