Maple Class - Summer 2, week 3
Date: 23rd Jun 2025 @ 7:03pm
Last week was a busy one with one thing and another, so sorry for the late Web Blog for Maple Class. It of course was a super hot week, so lots of fun was had outside and when we needed a break from the sun we ventured inside or into the shade under the trees.
This week we focused on the book Tiddler by Julia Donaldson and looked at sea creatures. Our Play Project produced some wonderful creations of large construction boats, creating fishing rods with fish, and Sophie even made one for her cat Eddie, some wonderful stories and drawings - fab work Maple Class. The new writing area in the outside area has been ahige hit and made children have been found here writing stories and also more letters to the faries, who made a return to Maple Garden this week, making the most of the glorious sunshine!
In phonics this week we completed our last week of our Level 4 phonics where we looked at reading cccvc words such as spring, splat, string, street. We continued to learn to write our level 3 tricky words, then applying this when reading and writing captions and sentences. Next week we will be carrying out Phonics assessments and recapping what we have learnt since September.
In maths we looked at number stories for combining groups, number stories for coutning on, number stories for hidden numbers and we also looked at solving problems.
Tuesday saw us take part in the Ampmey Crucis Sports Day - thank you to all of you for coming and supporting us. All the children in Maple, and Willow class, did incredibly well and the encouragment to their peers was wonderful to see. We had fun taking part in the running races, egg and spoon, bean bag balancing and sack races. We also loved cheering on all the parents who took part in the parent races - well done!
In RE with Mrs Wood on Wednesday we looked at how might a story from the Bible show a Christian how to treat other people.
As Mrs Duffey was on a course on Thursday, having a day learning all about Maths, Mr Villa and Mrs Cordell had Maple Class and looked at the artest Andy Goldsworthy and created seashell spirals using stones. I have seen the photos of the wonderful creations made and they are fabulous. Szymon, Ralph, Frankie, Sophie and Della all brought in things to take to Willow Class for their show and tell with Miss Jackson.
Friday afteroon in PSHE Maple looked at the story Be Kind and discussed how children show kindess.
