Maple Class - Summer 2, week 2
Date: 12th Jun 2026 @ 4:14pm
This week we have been thinking about dinosaurs and our book focus has been Tyrannosaurus Drip by Julia Donaldson. We have been printing dinosaur footprints in the playdough and counting in 2’s as well as comparing them! We have been making dinosaur skeletons using pasta and drawing dinosaurs and writing sentences to go with our pictures. We have loved using the small world resources to create the habitats of different types of animals.
In Phonics we have continued to practice reading and writing words with adjacent consonants. We wrote some amazing descriptions about dinosaurs. We have also been doing our phonics assessments this week and the progress we have made has been brilliant. Well done Maple.
We absolutely loved our parents/carers joining us in Forest School on Tuesday. We showed our grown ups how to whittle, we learnt how to do leaf hammering and we loved getting wet and muddy! We built a shelter to protect us from the rain and enjoyed using it! We also collected objects around the forest school area to make nature art.
Our second cooking groups enjoyed making their cheese pinwheels – even Mrs Chadwick came in and had a little taste, she agreed that they were delicious! We hope you enjoyed them!
In maths we have been thinking about volume and capacity this week and have been exploring filling and emptying containers with varying amounts of water, rice and pasta.
We enjoyed problem solving this week and working out how to move the water between tuff trays without using containers to move it – brilliant team working Maple, using different resources you could find in the outside area!
Our second group of children finished their balanceability sessions this week and we could certainly see their confidence grow over the last 4 weeks – well done, their gliding has come on loads.
Friday afternoon we enjoyed gardening in Maple garden, we tidied up the garden, did some weeding and looked at how well all our plants and vegetables are growing. Our sunflowers look like they are about ready to open.
Well done to Joey, Elsie, Rogan and Eddie who all got awarded Celebration Certificates this week in our celebration assembly.
Have a lovely weekend and see you next week.
