Maple Class - summer 1, week 2
Date: 23rd Apr 2026 @ 10:11pm
What a great week we’ve had in Maple this week and it has been lovely to see lots of sunshine. This week we have been thinking about trains. We spotted how trains today are the same and different to trains in the past and we read the book The Train Ride by June Crebbin.
In maths this week we have partitioned 9. We used children, numicon and number lines to find number pairs. We also demonstrated a super understanding of shapes and used the peg boards and elastic bands to make our own shapes and talk and compare them. We looked at 3d shapes and took part in problem solving activities such as working out what shape was being described using a feely bag, working out which 3d shapes are best for constructing with.
In Phonics we have continued to assess children in their level 2 and 3 phonics, before moving onto level 4 next week. We have produce amazing writing in Explore and Learn time for different purposes. Children are becoming more and more confident at using their level 3 graphemes to spell words and use these to write captions.
In Forest School this week we demonstrated amazing imaginative play in the mud kitchen, making potions, sharing potions between each other, comparing the weights of the potions and using their imaginations to adapt their potions with other ingredients for other purposes.
In PSED we read What the Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson. We thought about the reason for rules, knowing right from wrong and how we should behave accordingly.
In RE we learnt that a church is a special place for Christians and identified what churches have inside and outside.
Another group of children made some amazing naan bread pizzas this week, thinking about the importance of washing our hands, putting on an apron and they practiced the skill of cutting up vegetables to go on the pizza. All children were really sensible and we enjoyed a small group discussion on our favorite pizza toppings and debating if a pepper is a vegetable or a fruit. The classroom smelt delicious while the pizzas were cooking in our wonderful Maple oven.
On Friday we had the first balance ability group of children take part in their first balancebaility session, following on from last weeks assessment. All children in the group demonstrated wonderful listening and control of the bikes – what a great first session, well done Maple.
Well done to Ruby, Lottie, Myles and Ollie who have all received awards in our Celebration assembly this week.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunny weather.
