Maple class - Autumn 2, week 7
Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 5:44pm
What an exciting and full on Christmas week we’ve had in Maple class. We are truly well in to the spirit of Christmas. Our class Elf, Jack, has been quite cheeky and keeping us on our toes! On Friday he got a whiteboard pen and drew glasses, hats and funn faces on our photos in the home corner!!
We’ve managed to continue with our Phonics lessons and his week we have been looking at the medial sound ‘u’ in words, reading and writing words such as sun, bus, cub and reading captions containing words we can decode and tricky words we have been learning.
In maths we have done lots of counting to 10, and started to think about what the word ‘volume’ means.
Monday saw us take part in a pantomime workshop, delivered to us by the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham to prepare us for attending the pantomime on Tuesday. We had fun learning about the different characters we’d see and some of us got to dress up as the characters.
Tuesday the whole of the school attended the pantomime, Robin Hood, at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, what fun we had. We were also treated to an ice cream!
On Wednesday we had our school carol service at the church where Maple took part in a nativity tableau and dressed up as the characters from the nativity. We enjoyed walking down to the church and singing all the carols we had been learning at school. Wednesday afternoon we got creative and made lots of Christmassy crafts such as paper chains, snowflakes and Christmas cards.
On Thursday we had our school Christmas Dinner. We all sat down together in the hall where we had a table cloth to colour in, crackers and a yummy Christmas lunch made by Julliette in the kitchen. Maple then joined Willow in their class to watch some Christmas episodes of Postman Pat. When we returned to Maple class we were invited into the grotto by the Chief Elf (AKA Mrs Chadwick) to meet Santa! We were so excited and had lots and lots of questions for him, and of course we were all eager to know if we were on the good list! Luckily he confirmed we were! We were so excited to tell him about our families and then he gave us a gift and Mrs Duffey took a photo of us with him! We then had an afternoon of party games, finishing off our Christmas cards and we also watched The Gruffalos Child by Julia Donaldson.
On Friday morning we enjoyed our Christmas songs and carols around the Christmas tree before saying a farewell to Mr Batchelor,
We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas break and enjoy lots of family time together, making memories and having fun. Thank you so much from all of us in Maple for our generous Christmas gifts, it is very much appreciated and we have loved teaching all of your children since they joined us in September. Take care and see you in January.
