Maple class - Autumn 1, week 5
Date: 8th Oct 2025 @ 4:11pm
This week in Maple Class our focus class book was Zog by Julia Donaldson and thinking about our passions, what things Zog loved and loved to do. We then talked about our own passions and what we enjoy doing and listed these. We also thought about what our families love to do.
We started our Level 2 Twinkl Phonics this week! We learnt our first four sounds s, a, t, p. All the children have come home with a sheet explaining these sounds and also the flashcards on a treasury tag for you to practice with them at home. They have also got a reading book containing no words. Look at the pictures and talk about what you can see, making up a story together if your child is not yet confident to do this themselves. Any reading you do at home please remember to write in their reading diary so we can see what you have been doing. Remember too that you can log into your Twinkl Learner page and see what books you can read on there – please write these in your child’s reading diary too. We’ve been really impressed at how the children are engaging in their phonics sessions – we can tell they are all very excited to learn which is brilliant to see.
In maths we looked at having an awareness of 3D worlds e.g. building with blocks using shape puzzles or small world toys. We also counted 5 different sized objects, subitized 2, 3, 4 & 5 and also printed 5 in different patterns.
In forest school this week we looked at the different leaves falling from the trees and learnt the name of some of the trees they fell from. We made some leaf monsters and also got the paint out and made some lovely conker rolling art.
In art this week we looked at the artist Jackson Pollock and created our own 'drip' paintings, it was lots of fun.
During snack this week there was great discussion about where milk comes from. We talked to Joey about the cows on his farm and how often they get milked. Mrs Cordell then was very inventive and got a plastic glove filled with water to demonstrate how cows get milked!
Come Friday we were all quite tired so we did some yoga, which the children always enjoy doing.
We hope you had a wonderful weekend.
