Maple Class 26-27, Autumn 1, week 3
Date: 18th Sep 2026 @ 3:28pm
The week was full of excitement when we found 3 bowls of porridge in the Forest School area. We thought that they must belong to the 3 bears! We read the story and talked about how the characters must have felt. We thought that Goldilocks would feel very sorry and might offer to make the bears some more porridge. We used some porridge oats to weigh and make 4 new bowls for the bears and Goldilocks. We made sorry cards for Goldilocks to give to the 3 bears when she visited. We created our own Goldilocks map and added all the things we thought would be in the woods. We looked at various maps and discussed how they are different to a picture.
In PE we thought about how hard we throw a ball to bounce it into different hoops.
We have been practicing our gross and fine motor skills, working together to make patters using the peg boards. We have been doing super emergent writing to write shopping lists. We have also had fun with the playdoh, strengthening our fingers and using our imagination, making biscuits for a party.
We have done amazing Maths this week. We thought about when we count, having to count in the correct order from 1-5, and how 5 must be the last number we count.
We had our first session in Forest School and had so much fun! We explored everywhere and learnt how to swing our legs forwards and backwards to move ourselves on the swing.
We have done lots of investigating this week – we used the magnets to see what would stick to it. We also created another dinosaur world and added vehicles, we thought about if vehicles would have been there with the dinosaurs!
In PSHE we read the story the Smed and the Smoos by Julia Donaldson and thought about ‘Empathy’. We introduced the 4 zones of regulation and talked about which zone we’d be in depending on how we felt. Blue is when we are bored, lonely, sad, tired or unwell. Green is what we all would love to be in, it is when we are calm, content, focused, happy and ready to learn. Yellow zone is when we are anxious, confused, excited, frustrated or worried. Red zone is when we are angry, aggressive, terrified, need time out and space. We thought about how the Smeds and the Smoos may have felt and what zone they would be in.
It has been wonderful to listen to the children read this week. They’ve all done brilliantly at using the pictures in the books to tell a story. Next week we will be starting our Level 2 Twinkl Phonics and children will start to learn their first sounds.
Our classroom smelt amazing on Friday afternoon with the flapjacks that were made by half of maple class. They all were so sensible, listened to instructions, weighed out the ingredients, mixed, poured and flattened the mixture. We hope you enjoy them!
