Remote Learning for September 2021

Following the National Lockdown from January 2021 and the great possibility of part of if not all of the school being off again, the documents below outlines what we have offered to ensure the children's education has continued despite being at home.

The details below now also apply to how we will teach any children who are self isolating and off school for a period of time, with adaptions if needed. Teachers will discuss with parents of individual children who are self isolating what they can access.

The Remote Curriculum: What is taught to pupils at home

Access to remote learning is available on Google Classroom for Year 1 upwards and Class Dojo for Reception children, who can also upload work onto Tapestry.

We aim to teach the same curriculum objectives remotely as we do in school however, the activities may vary depending on access to resources and suitability for distance learning. These decisions will be made by individual class teachers in liaison with the Head teacher. As a school we have made adaptions in PE, Music, Science and DT due to the nature of these lessons, but class teachers will sign post parents to different online sources to help support these.

How long can I expect work set by  the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly the following number of hours each day.

Key Stage one - 3 hours

Key Stage Two - 4 hours

How will my child access any remote online education?

The online tools we will be using for delivery or assessment are:

Class Dojo - for uploading learning tasks and links to work, mainly for Maple children.

Google Classroom- assignments will be uploaded, including videos and work can be submitted back to the teachers for feedback and assessment

Zoom - for video calls for English and Maths daily and one other subject, whole school worship and celebration worship.

How will you support families who can not access online learning at home?

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home.

We can take the following approaches to support those pupils:

  • discussions with parents to review access to the internet
  • loaned provision of devices (3 have an allocation of 3 devices)
  • provision of hard copies of work

How will my child be taught remotely?

We will use a combination of the following approaches and these will be reviewed weekly.

  1. 2 daily teaching sessions for English and Maths for Year 1-6 (this may include taking part in live teaching sessions from the classroom), live sessions for phonics, story time for Reception.
  2. Some pre-recorded teaching video sessions, including phonics and maths.
  3. Reading books will be sent home and changed when necessary.
  4. Commercially available websites to support the teaching of specific subjects or areas including video clips or interactive games
  5. Access to subscriptions to support fluency and development of basic skills (TTRockstars, Scratch, Mathletics, Phonics Play, Hit the Button.)

What are your expectations for my child's engagement and the support that we as Parents and carers should provide at home?

We expect that:

  • Pupils will fully engage every day with the remote learning opportunities provided by the school by completing, uploading and submitting work on Google Classroom or via Tapestry as signposted by Maple Class Teachers. All work submitted should be completed to the highest quality and meeting the expectations that teachers would have within the classroom.
  • Pupils will attend daily live teaching sessions provided by their Class Teacher unless other arrangements have been made with the Head teacher.
  • Parents will support their children by setting a daily routine to support their child's remote learning. Along side this parents will continue to support their child's reading every day and practising core skills such as spellings, handwriting, phonics, number fluency and times tables.

How will you check that my child is engaging in their work?

Class teachers will take a register at the start of the first teaching session of the day and they will keep a record of children who attend teaching sessions and submit work.

If there is a concern class teachers will contact parents via email or class dojo message to discuss how best to support further engagement.

How will you assess my child's work and progress?

Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments.

Our approaches to feedback will include:

  • quizzes
  • written responses on Goggle classroom
  • verbal feedback during live teaching sessions
  • some 1:1 feedback for pupils
  • mini assessments on key concepts

Additional support for pupils with particular needs

We recognise that some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities may need more support accessing remote education. Class teachers and the SENCo will work with parents to provide individual support for their child.

If there are children whose performance or potential is significantly greater than that of their peers. Class teachers will also work with parents to support pupils by providing broaden and deepening tasks in English and Maths.
